Honeybees-by-the-Sea Apiary Tours

Honeybees-by-the-Sea is a micro apiary, or honeybee garden, on the Crystal  Coast of North Carolina.  Our primary goal is the nurturing of honeybees, helping to ensure their survival.

Educational Tours of our Honeybee Garden, are available by appointment only.  To schedule, please email us well in advance of your prospective visit.  Tours are conducted May through October, weather permitting.  Rain dates are recommended.

Tours focus on the art of Beekeeping, the life cycle of the honeybee family, honeybee foraging, hive products, landscaping for honeybees, the importance of honeybees to agriculture, etc.  Tours culminate in a honey tasting.

Over the years, we have conducted these tours for

Schools, K-12, 4H Clubs, Garden Clubs, Aspiring Beekeepers and those interested in honeybees.  Our honeybees are gentle Italians; they are lovely and tireless, worthy of the awe they have inspired over the centuries.  Our colonies are situated in our organic Terra Preta, (Amazonian Dark Earth), garden area, protected from intrusion.

Wake up honeybees!

The orientation of colonies to the South and East, allows the rising sun to strike the front doors of the colonies...rise and shine!

 Apiary Tour Fall 2009

We search for foraging bees in the Coral Honeysuckle Arbor...Alas, by November the Elaeagnus Hedge is no longer in bloom.

All Tours  culminate in a Honey Tasting.

Here we graphically illustrate the variety of color in the different honey harvests, depending on the nectar source.
